Your Number One Priority as a Business Owner

By |January 16th, 2012|Blog, Small Business Marketing|1 Comment

In his book, Ready, Fire, Aim, Michael Masterson makes a great point that should be burned into every entrepreneur’s head as early in his/her career as possible.

Your number one priority in business is in marketing and selling you core product/service.

Back in my undergraduate studies at Syracuse University in upstate New York, one memory sticks out in my mind so vividly clear.  I was sitting in a business class – it could’ve very well been a class in Entrepreneurship because that was one of my majors – and while sitting there waiting for the class to start, I could overhear a […]

3 Twitter Tools You Can’t Do Without, Plus a Few More

By |January 15th, 2012|Blog, Small Business Social Media|0 Comments

I am no Twitter expert but for the past month or so, I’ve been on there a lot because it’s fun and because it’s a great source of traffic to my blog.  You also meet some great people and learn a lot so what’s not to love.

Perry Belcher said that social media is like a party. Don’t go to the party looking to peddle your stuff, just look to have fun and if you have a good enough time, chances are good that people will be curious to know what you do and maybe even come over (visit your blog) […]

SEO Business Question from a Twitter Follower

By |January 12th, 2012|Blog, Frequently Asked Questions|0 Comments

Yesterday I got an email from a twitter follower and thought he raised some common questions shared by many so I decided to share my response here, on my blog.

I won’t copy and paste his email verbatim but here are his three questions:

He asked me if 1. I do my own link building, 2. how do I get SEO clients and 3. what other web 2.0 sites, besides Facebook and Twitter, do I use to promote myself.

Here was my response:
Hey Eric,
Thanks for the email.

1. Yes I do my own link building.
2. I attract clients by giving out my business card […]

How to Get Your Website Ranked #1 on Google

By |January 9th, 2012|Blog, Frequently Asked Questions, Search Engine Optimization|0 Comments

Probably the biggest question we get at SEO Spartan is “How EXACTLY do you get your clients’ websites ranked in the top ten for their chosen keyword phrases?”

Well, the simple answer is backlinking and using the power social media and Web 2.0.

Here is how Wikipedia defines web 2.0:

“The term Web 2.0 is associated with web applications that facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. A Web 2.0 site allows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumers) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast […]

WordPress is one of the most popular Content Management Systems (CMS) on the web. Although primarily used for blogging, it can also be used to build regular-looking business websites. Put simply, a CMS is an application which allows you to manage, create and update a series of web pages which make up a website. Using Photos in Your Small Business Marketing

By |January 8th, 2012|Blog, Small Business Marketing|0 Comments

As you should know by now, I handle the marketing at my family’s restaurant, Niko’s Taverna in White Plains, New York.

Although I believe you can use this strategy in your business no matter what industry you are in, using photos in a restaurant’s marketing plan is an obvious no brainer.

Quality pictures of food make me hungry as I’m sure is the same for others.

This strategy also has search engine optimization value online, because your properly titled photos give online searchers one more way to find you.

So this is what I did.

I took my Canon EOS Rebel T1i into the restaurant […]

The Best (Most Effective) Small Business Marketing Tool Ever

The Newsletter

For some reason, something magical happens when you publish something. People love it and for some crazy reason they see you as more of an authority.

I handle the marketing for my family’s restaurant and nothing gets a better response than the newsletter.

I emailed the latest digital version out at the beginning of January and again a few days later to all the people who did not open the email the first time (a little Internet marketing tip I picked up from Ryan Deiss).

The total number of people on our list is just over 800 and after 2 emails, 26% […]

Factors That Play a Role in Search Engine Rankings

By |January 6th, 2012|Blog, Frequently Asked Questions, Search Engine Optimization|0 Comments

Here is another very good question about SEO that I heard today:
How do some websites have such high rankings on google but do not have h1 or h2 tags?
I will probably get a lot of grief about this but,
right now search engine optimization has almost nothing to do with on-page optimization and everything to do with who is linking to you and with what anchor text*.

Only exception I can think of is if you are in a really weak industry in terms of SEO competition, then google will pick up your content without many links pointing back to you.

Periodically Google […]

How Do I Get Links Pointing to My Website?

By |January 6th, 2012|Blog|0 Comments

“I created a website with the premise of articles written for moms by moms. But it is a catch-22 because in order to get moms to contribute I need them to be able to find my site!”

This is a question that I saw today while surfing the web and I felt compelled to post an answer here since I’m sure many newcomers to SEO are also thinking it.
Here are some suggestions for getting links pointing to your site in order get ranked higher in the search engines:

get listed in directories, I suggest directorymaximizer.com.
distribute your articles, I suggest distributeyourarticles.com
syndicate videos, traffic geyser

if you […]
